Phone 13 14 50 for free language assistance in any language.

An operator will arrange for an interpreter in the appropriate language to join in a three-way conversation with an election official and questions will be answered in your own language.

Pre-poll and postal vote information

 Pre-poll and postal vote information is available in these languages:

 Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Greek, Italian, Korean, Macedonian, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese.

Multilingual poster and voting assistance guides

At all pre-poll and polling places handouts to assist in casting a formal vote will be available in 24 community languages. A multi-lingual poster will indicate any languages spoken by election officials there.

Voting assistance is available in these languages:

Arabic; Assyrian; Chinese; Croatian; Greek; Hindi; Indonesian; Italian; Japanese; Khmer; Korean; Lao; Macedonian; Maltese; Persian; Polish; Portuguese; Russian; Serbian; Spanish; Tagalog; Thai; Turkish and Vietnamese.

Advertising campaign

An extensive elector information campaign to increase public awareness, understanding and participation in the 2008 Local council elections will be conducted in 12 different languages through advertisements in 15 community newspapers and on SBS radio and community radio networks.

Working as an election official

At polling places where many electors may have culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, returning officers will try to employ multilingual election officials. If you are interested in working at the election, you find further information in the employment section.
