2008 Local government elections

Local council elections will be held on Saturday 13 September 2008.

It is compulsory for Australian citizens resident in NSW, 18 years of age or older to enrol and vote for representatives on their council.

Important dates and information for these elections

Candidate nominations:

Monday 4 August to 12.00 noon Wednesday 13 August

Enrolment:

Close of rolls Monday 4 August at 6.00 pm

Registration of electoral material (including how-to-vote cards):

12.00 noon Wednesday 13 August to 5.00 pm Friday 5 September 

Prepoll voting:

Pre-poll voting centres open from Monday 1 to Friday 12 September 6.00 pm 

Postal voting:

Closed 5.00 pm Monday 8 September

Return of postal ballot papers:

By 6.00 pm Monday 15 September

Voting at declared institutions:

Monday 8 September to Wednesday 10 September

Voting on election day:

Polling places open 8.00 am to 6.00 pm Saturday 13 September

Check count and Declaration Vote results:

Available from Sunday 14 September

Distribution of preferences:

Starts Tuesday 16 September
